When selling yourself as faster and cheaper is no longer enough: Part 2

In Part 1, we introduced Host Analytics, an enterprise software vendor that delivers a suite of corporate performance management (CPM) tools through a software-as-a-service (SaaS) model. We discussed how the company initially positioned itself as a “faster and cheaper” alternative to established competitors such as Hyperion – a vendor later acquired by Oracle from which many of Host Analytics’ founders had come.

By the late 2000s, Host Analytics had come to realize that its initial value proposition no longer represented the firm’s true value and wasn’t supporting its position as an emerging market leader. It needed to rebrand and reposition itself and take advantage of the fact that SaaS had begun to go mainstream as a delivery model for many enterprise applications and had found greater acceptance among finance professionals. Canada loses two social media gems

Canada’s online community has taken a major hit this month as two social networking sites with a positive bent had no choice but to shut down after running out of cash.

First Sprouter, a question-and-answer site that sought to help aspiring entrepreneurs by providing them access to seasoned experts, announced plans to shut down on Aug. 2 (but seems to remain online for the time being). Then Akoha, an online game that encouraged its players to enact real-world good deeds in hopes of creating social change, informed its users it would be going offline Aug. 15.

Not yet too late for Ontario, BC SMBs to become HST compliant

 

Despite a long government campaign to get taxpayers onboard with the HST which came into effect this July 1st, a majority of small businesses in Ontario and British Columbia are opposed to and unprepared for the new tax regime.

More that 54 per cent of respondents in Ontario and 47 per cent in B.C. won’t be ready to comply with the changes, according to recent survey by poll body Angus Reid Public Opinion for Intuit Canada, a tax software developer.

No less than 35 per cent of respondents in both provinces also admitted they don’t understand the need for the new measures. Read the rest of this entry »
