Imagine being able to send an instant message to your colleagues while you’re doing something on a productivity application in your phone. Better yet, picture how cool it would be if you could trash-talk your buddy while the two of you battle in a mobile game on your BlackBerries.
These are just some of the stuff that BlackBerry Messenger Version 6, the latest iteration of the popular BBM instant messaging client, can do.
Yesterday, RIM announced that it has opened up BBM to integrate with a score of other apps including FourSquare, Score Mobile, the Huffington post app and Wikitude. Other BBM 6-connected apps can be found in App World, RIM`s application store. Read the rest of this entry »
The Coolest Stuff in Digital Media: Checking Out Ryerson’s Digital Media Zone

I’m often asked at IDC what the coolest technology is that I’m seeing in Canada from tech startups. In the Digital Media space, and in Toronto specifically, a good place to source out hot new digital media technology is at Ryerson’s new Digital Media Zone (DMZ), which officially opened on April 7, 2010 (http://www.ryerson.ca/dmz/).
Located on the 5th floor overlooking Yonge-Dundas Square, the DMZ connects Ryerson students, graduates and alumni from different disciplines to take digitally inspired concepts and make them real solutions and marketable products. Ryerson’s President Sheldon Levy explained that Ryerson does not take a stake in the technology being developed; instead it provides the space and equipment for students to test and try their ideas in a safe environment supported and funded by the school.

Google gives Apple cause for concern with Nexus One

Today’s buzz is all about the announcement that Google is launching its new Google Phone, called the Nexus One.
While Stephen Jobs and the gang at Apple say they are not threatened by this new entry in to the highly competitive phone market, the mere fact that Apple said they are not worried speaks volumes about their concerns of the shifting market share.
