As a female technologist who has had a very technical career installing and managing complex voice and data networks throughout the world, and now run my technology engineering company, I find these studies and some of the commments puzzling. I have consistently been the highest performing, highest paid in my career, and never been downsized. In the tech sector, it is possible to advance, and be recognized as equal by your accomplishments. Sure, there is politics, but that is the corporate world. I had male mentors who helped me 'learn the ropes' and how to succeed and advance. I very rarely had females to work with or network with in my field, but that didn't stop me in advancing.

My consulting team at FOX GROUP is now mainly female, and we are some of the most qualified, experienced technology professionals in Canada. As the leader of the company, I also enjoy the diversity of skills we all bring, including the females to working together and with our clients.

When I participate at career days, I encourage young women to look at the total picture of life time learning, abliity to work with people and technology as it changes, and to build a network of professionals who can help you learn the skills you don't have. It is critical that we have young women enter our industry, and we must all do our part to educate and encourage our youth to consider ICT.
